"Why does the lead I just paid for already belong to 4 other guys?"

We hear that question more than any other.

A contractor buys a lead from Angi, HomeAdvisor, or Thumbtack.

He calls back in 4 minutes, fast, the way you’re supposed to. And that homeowner’s already screening 3 other trucks for the same job.

Same lead.

Sold 4 times over.

By the time you pick up the phone, it’s a price war, and the lowest bid usually isn’t yours.

That question is why this company exists. It’s also why we’re starting this blog.

Who we are

 We’re MyHomeStory Pro.

We build software for home service contractors. The plumbers, HVAC techs, roofers, electricians, remodelers, and any other contractor running real companies make somewhere between $1M and $10M a year.

This is the kind of owner who’s in the truck by 7, checks his phone between jobs, and built the whole thing on a good name and word of mouth, then watched the lead sites turn marketing into a slot machine.

We built MyHomeStory Pro so a contractor can see his whole territory. Every home in it. Instead of fighting 4 competitors over the same recycled name, you get a picture of the work that’s actually out there around you. We’ll get deeper into how that works in posts to come.

Why your lead costs keep climbing

 Here’s how it actually works.

The shared-lead sites make more money every time a lead sells again. One name, sold to you and 3 of your competitors, pays them 4 times. So when your cost climbs year after year, that’s the system doing exactly what it was built to do.

We think that’s a rigged game. And we think the contractor who can see his own territory stops playing it.

You don’t have to take our word for that yet. That’s what the blog is for.

What this blog will do

It has one job: answer the questions you actually ask.

Things like:

  • Why do the leads I buy feel worse every year?

  • How do I get jobs without renting them from a platform?

  • What’s a fair price for a lead, and how would I even know?

  • How do the busy guys in my area keep work coming in through the slow months?

We’ll answer them straight, in plain language, the way we’d tell you over coffee at the supply counter at 6:45 in the morning. Short enough to read between jobs.

Some of it will be about our software. Most of it won’t be. Because before any of that matters, you deserve a real answer to the question you started with.
